CES 2009, Las Vegas

On A Higher Note will have on display at the Venetian in suite # 31-219, the new Luxman SQ-38u vacuum tube integrated amplifier driving the Vivid Audio B-1 loudspeakers. Cabling will be Nordost's Valhalla. Luxman's new P-200 Class A headphone  Amplifier will be on passive display.

Over at the Mirage in a penthouse suite on the 29'th floor (actual room number to be announced on Tuesday 6 Janury as we set up the equipment); On A Higher Note will demonstrate the production version of the Vivid Audio Giya driven by Luxman's 80'th Anniversary Commemoration model amplifers & matching preamp. Luxman will introduce their new  D-08 SA-CD / CD player; this is Luxman's first major stereo CD player in ten years.  It will be the first player from Luxman to incorporate thier proprietary distortion cancelling technology - ODNF (Only Distortion Negative Feedback).

Nordost will not only provide a fully equipped Odin sytem but also demonstrate their new QUANTUM RESONANT TECHNOLOGY (QRT) which is a radical new approach to AC/Mains conditioning and power purification. QRT has created a new device that is infinitely more effective called an Electro Magnetic Field Stabilizer (EMFS). The effects are easily heard and seen and can be demonstrated with measured results. QRT Electro Magnetic Field Stabilizers can be applied in almost any quality electronic field without the associated negative effects that limit more conventional approaches.

We will have a Tim De Pavaracini custom modified Technics RS-1520 reel to reel as well as a Sonorus custom modified reVox PR99 mk III reel to reel on hand to playback two track master tapes @ 15 ips.We will be playing selections from the recent Tape Project tapes (Sonny Rollins, Bill Evans...) as well as Quinton's catalogue, such as the Sabina Hank.

Groove Note's 'Best of Jacintha" is simply outstanding. All of her albums were all recorded by Mike Ross in Hollywood, mastered by Bernie Grundman and produced by Joe Harley. The albums were recorded simultaneously in DSD and Analogue.  I am thrilled with the Jacintha on 15 ips 1/4".  Combines the best of vinyl (immediacy & dynamics, remarkable bass definition) with the low noise background of digital, without any of the high frequency etchiness of the latter. The vocals are very palpable and have a reach out & touch type sondstage.

We will also have Analogue Productions' Thorens 125 'th Anniversary on tape, kindly duped by Kevin Gray at RTI; thanks Chad !  The Hugh Masakela "Coal Train to Namibia" has to be heard to be believed - unbelievably dynamic. The Rickie Lee Jones cuts are also superb.
