Show report: Dealer event at Joseph Cali System’s Gryphon Audio loft in New York

Setting up the Gryphon Manhattan dealer’ showroom was a labor of love.   I got so touched by the commitment to excellence from everyone around me that I wrote about the preparations for the event and posted that day (see: Gryphon Has Landed in snowy New York! – The Prep).  Industry veteran, Joseph Cali, is a dear friend and we are very honored to have his backing in rolling out Gryphon Audio in North America.

We showed a full Gryphon system with Gryphon power cords, interconnects and speaker cables to demonstrate the full Gryphon synergy.

Here’s our components list:

  • Gryphon Diablo 300 with optional built-in DAC and phonostage module
  • Gryphon Diablo 120 with optional built-in DAC module
  • Gryphon Sonett Phono stage
  • Gryphon Scorpio CD player
  • Gryphon Kalliope DSD DAC
  • Gryphon Mojo S Floor standing Loudspeaker system
  • Gryphon Pantheon Loudspeaker system
  • Gryphon VIP Reference Power cord US C13
  • Gryphon VIP Reference Interconnect
  • Gryphon Reference Masterline Speaker cable
  • Gryphon Atlas decoupling system
  • Brinkman Spider turntable
  • Artesania Exoteryc equipment rack, damper and decoupling system

We have championed the Gryphon Diablo 120 and Mojo S pairing and the Gryphon Diablo 300 and Pantheon pairing that are examples of prearranged marriages in the high end audio world that work from the beginning and makes you keep wanting to go back for more.  Of note was that both Joe Cali and I were floored by the CD playback performance of the Gryphon Scorpio CD player.

On a direct comparison of the CD versus the same song from a DSD download, the CD had a larger soundstage with a fuller and richer sound. The high Rez file sounded thin in comparison.  The great news is that CD collections can be built dirt cheap these days.  Even Lori Lieberman preferred how her voice sounded on the CD over the LP on “I Wish” from “Ready for the Storm” album.

It was truly a unique event to be able to start a music session with a singer / song writer performing live through our audio system. Then later on we did a comparison of her live performance against the recorded version and the audience enjoyed that immensely.

As promised I will hit on our Whiskey tasting and music pairing session.  For the Manhattan Gryphon launch, we supplied three classic pot still whiskies and one single malt.  The whiskies we sampled were Green Spot, Powers, Redbreast, and West Cork Single Malt.  Read more, Introduction to Irish single malts and the famed On A Higher Note tasting sessions.

We want to thank everyone who attended the event.  We are posting some event pictures here to relive the marvelous time with great music wonderful playback, long-time friendships and memorable conversations.
